life is like a soap opera…

Sometimes you feel like the light at the end of the tunnel is a train heading for you… usually those are the days that feel like you are living in a soap opera. Its not just me, is it??! I think we have all had those days when you have the opposite of the midas touch, everything you touch goes wrong, badly wrong. You know what I mean, you burn the toast before realising you ran out of coffee and the milk was off!

So, what do we do on those days? We have two options: (1) Throw a pity party, cry into the black, watery tea and comfort eat; or (2) Throw your head back and laugh out loud, because life has to get better. Really and truly horrible things do happen, people we love get sick, others disrespect us, houses get broken into, and so on. We cannot stop these things, life happens and it shows no favour… “(God) causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:45b, NIV).

I think the key difference between enjoying the journey or being miserable is in our attitude. We don’t get to choose what happens as the drama of life unfolds, but we can choose our attitude. Viktor E. Frankl, holocaust survivor said:
“We who lived in the concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: The last of his freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

So, when next life hands you a lemon, go check out a recipe for making lemonade… really, you can do it!
